Ready, Set, School! Expert Tips for a Smooth Back-to-School Transition

The start of a new school year brings excitement, but also uncertainty. Whether your child is stepping into a classroom for the first time, adjusting to a new teacher and classmates, or beginning the journey into high school, transitions can be challenging for autistic children who thrive on predictability and routine.

As a parent, you want to help your child feel prepared and confident, but knowing where to start isn't always clear. How do you ease anxiety about the unknown? What routines should you establish? How do you communicate your child's needs to teachers? What supports can you request, and how do you advocate effectively?

This January, we're bringing you expert guidance from psychologist and behaviour analyst Alex Brown. With many years of experience supporting autistic children and their families, Alex will share practical, realistic strategies to help you navigate the back-to-school transition with confidence.
