Helping Children with Autism Package

The Helping Children with Autism package was announced in 2007 and implemented in 2008. The Australian Government committed $190 million dollars over a period of 4 years to June 2012.

The package includes:

  • Autism Early Intervention (AEI)funding of $12,000 per child ($6,000 per financial year for 2 years up to the age of 7 years)
  • An additional $2000 payment for regional and remote families
  • Autism Advisors to assist with accessing AEI funding and services
  • Enhancements to the Raising Children Network Website http://raisingchildren.net.au
  • Early Days Workshops for families with newly diagnosed children www.earlydays.net.au
  • PlayConnect Playgroups
  • Professional Development for teachers and school staff working with children with ASDs
  • Training for parents and carers with school aged children with ASDs
  • An online autism training course: www.autismtraining.com.au
  • New Medicare item codes for diagnosis and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders
